Funding appeal for sanctuary

Christmas 1888

Fr Fieu started a fresh appeal for funds as he prepared to have the sanctuary constructed: “When the late Rev Fr Coles built this Church in 1843 he was unable to finish the Chancel or Sanctuary (and Fr Cotter too was not able) … this will, with God’s help, be completed next summer. Although a kind benefactor has promised £200, at least £400 more will be required.” At this same time, reviewing the Schools, Fr Fieu said: “All the buildings are now in a very good and healthy condition. Both teachers and pupils are doing well. All the alterations have been paid for; the old debt has been reduced to £290.”
