First school extension

21 August

A new infants school building was formally opened at the rear of Edward Pugin's original building. This helped to relieve the additional pressure on space created by the introduction of compulsory education in 1870. An 1870 document marked “Specification of works to be done in erecting an Infant School situate in the New Road Woolwich – John Crawley, Architect and Surveyor” is held in the parish archives.
